This section is my suitcase, or what I bring along
with me into the classroom. Specifically, below are some personal skills and attributes that arer key to my teaching
style, my relationships with fellow staff and students, and my outlook on life!
I know intermediate elementary students.
I have been teaching for 3 years and have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th
grades. I know where my students have come from, and I know where they need to
go, both academically and socially. My exposure to different levels of curriculum is greater than other
third year teachers and my knowledge and experience makes me a stronger and more effective educator.
I am comfortable and confident in all types of school environments.
I have taught in several educational environments, in and beyond
the typical classroom. I have had success in a typical suburban classroom and
in culturally diverse urban schools. Currently, I teach in a school with
an urban population. Most of my students are Mexican-American and come from low
socio-economic backgrounds. It can be a challenge for my students and me to focus
on academics because of certain aspects of the community. To meet this challenge,
I use my developed resources (parent connections, special education background, staff member partnerships,
etc.) to accommodate the specific student needs in my classroom.
I enjoy people.
Throughout my life,
I have sought jobs that allow me to work within a social environment. Whether
working as a waitress during college or as a provider in a child care center, I appreciated my interactions with people,
children and adults. Recognizing the value of others is a strong asset that
helps me work through challenging situations. I take pride in my ability to enter into a situation and build positive
relationships with all involved.
I believe I can
make a difference.
My students feel this
belief. My fellow staff members understand this belief. My students' parents appreciate this belief. Because
of this belief I am successful as an educator. At times, I experience frustrating aspects
of my profession; however, I know I am making a difference!
